3/6/08 JAZZ ARTISTS URGED TO SEND PHOTOS ASAP

Teaneck Festival of Arts is sponsoring a photo essay celebrating Teaneck’s jazz musicians past, present and future which will be held in the Teaneck library during National Jazz Appreciation Month in April.

The public will also be able to view a screened production of the photo essay set to Nat Adderley's composition called "Teaneck" at a Meet The Artist reception on Sunday, March 30 from 3-5pm at the library, in the town municipal center, Teaneck Rd. and Cedar Lane.

It will also be seen April 5 during "On The Edge - A Fabulous Night of Offbeat Comedy and Sublime Jazz Vocals" - the second production of the Teaneck Festival of Arts (TFOA). The DVD will be presented at the Cedar Lane Cinemas, 503 Cedar Lane in Teaneck starting at 7:30pm - the live show will start at 8pm.

So far, the names of more than 70 jazz musicians have been collected. The famed jazz photographer, Chuck Stewart, www.ctijazz.com/photogallery/chuckstewartbio.php who lives in Teaneck, will contribute some of his photographs that include Milt Jackson, Nat Adderley, McCoy Tyner, Donald Byrd, Rufus Reid, Ray Drummond, Stanley Turrentine, Ray Barretto and Jon Faddis all of whom lived in or currently live in Teaneck. Mr. Stewart’s jazz photographs have appeared in Leonard Feather’s Jazz Encyclopedia, Esquire Jazz Book, Downbeat, The New York Times, Life, Paris-Match, and many other magazines and newspapers. In addition, he has provided photographs for numerous albums by jazz greats.

Teaneck's jazz artists are encouraged to send their photos, headshots, CD covers or other suitable material (magazine or program covers) with name, phone number and instrument played to Liz Celotto, TFOA Visual Arts Co-chair, 110 Sherman Ave., Teaneck, NJ 07666. If possible, include a framed photo no larger than 11” x 14”). The material can also be submitted as a JPEG (300 dpi) on a CD or e-mail to lcelotto@aol.com. A written release to reproduce and exhibit the photos/artwork must be included as well as the photo credit.

Local photographers have offered their services without charge to those who need photos. To schedule a session call Ms. Celotto, TFOA Visaul Arts Co-Chair, at 201- 836-3911. Submission entry deadline is March 15.

Tickets for the April production are $20 for adults and $15 for students and will be going on sale at the Teaneck Public Library starting March 4. For reservations call: 201 836-0114.

Consistent with TFOA's mission of bringing creative quality programming to Teaneck through a major production each season, the TFOA will present its third production "Piaf: Love Conquers All" which enjoyed a successful Off-Broadway run in New York City.  It can be seen on Sunday, June 22, during a matinee at 2pm and in the evening at 8pm at Fairleigh Dickinson University's Becton Theater in Teaneck.
